Vanderbilt Women in Surgery, a local chapter of the Association of Women Surgeons, met recently and welcomed guest speaker Sherry Wren, MD, vice chair of Surgery at the Stanford School of Medicine, director of Global Surgery at the Center for Innovation and Global Health, and director of Surgery at the Palo Alto Veterans Health Care System.
Wren spoke on disparities in health care faced by female patients and on the challenges faced by women in surgery at academic medical centers and health care institutions.
The women in attendance represented many of the surgical specialties at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and in the spirit of mentorship, the group welcomed daughters and other female family members to attend.
