David Vinson has been named Senior Vice President for Diagnostic Laboratory Services, effective Oct. 3.
Vinson comes on board as Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Diagnostic Laboratory Services are undergoing a major relocation and expansion project which will relocate most of VUMC’s clinical and anatomic pathology to an off-campus facility and renovate the main lab’s existing location on the fourth floor of The Vanderbilt Clinic. The relocation will take place in June 2023, along with a restructuring of VUMC’s regional and ambulatory labs, which will be brought under one umbrella to standardize the consistent delivery of quality care.
“The ability to provide high quality laboratory services in-house continues to offer our health system a strategic advantage, advancing the care we deliver,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for VUMC. “Mr. Vinson’s experience will be an asset as we continue to expand these services to our new off-site location. I want to formally welcome David to our leadership team.”
Alice Coogan, MD, Dorothy Beryl and Theodore R. Austin Professor and chair of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology (PMI), said VUMC’s leadership team is excited to have Vinson, who has held the role on an interim basis, take it on permanently.
“David is an exceptional leader with extensive experience in lab expansion. He has been instrumental in the transformation of the culture and quality of our clinical lab. His positive leadership and expertise will be key to the continued strategic growth and development of the clinical lab,” she said.
As the Senior Vice President, Vinson will continue to develop close and collaborative working relationships with other senior leaders across VUMC, especially in the Department of PMI, to ensure smooth integration of services and alignment of goals between the organization and the Diagnostic Laboratories.
“I’m honored and humbled to have senior VUMC leadership believe in me enough to lead our Diagnostic Laboratory team, especially through this period of change with our Laboratory Transformation Project,” Vinson said. “I’m excited to work with our team and others across the institution to continue to improve upon the services provided by our labs.”
Vinson has worked for VUMC Diagnostic Laboratory Services for the past 15 months as a contract employee with CareTinuum Consulting Partners, serving as the Interim Vice President of Lab Operations and shepherding its Laboratory Transformation Project. Prior to that he worked for Maestro Consulting Solutions as a consultant at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
