The Vanderbilt Music Cognition Lab will host its second annual open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 1408 17th Ave. S.
Have you ever wondered what science has to say about why music is important for health? Vanderbilt University Medical Center researchers are on their way to finding out. Music Cognition Lab co-directors Reyna Gordon, PhD, and Miriam Lense, PhD, and their research staff and trainees welcome you to come by to meet the scientists and enjoy live music and refreshments.
Attendees can chat with the research team about how they are exploring a vast array of scientific mysteries, including: How does music foster social and emotional connection? Why is music important for mental health? How does the brain make sense of rhythm and sound? What do musical and communication skills have in common? Is being musical part of our biology?
The open house provides an opportunity to meet the Vanderbilt scientists, engage in research demos, hear live music, and enjoy happy hour food and drinks. Performers include Daniel Tashian, Crys Matthews, Jamee Mae Berg, Kate Kelly and more.
Please RSVP (optional but appreciated) for the event here and email musichealth@vumc.org with any questions. More event details are available here.
The open house is sponsored by Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery.
