Trent Rosenbloom, MD, MPH, professor of Biomedical Informatics, Medicine, and Pediatrics, on July 1 will begin a one-year term as chair of the Biomedical Informatics, Library and Data Sciences Review Committee of the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
Founded in 1836 and incorporated into the National Institutes of Health in 1968, the NLM is a research award-making institution and the world’s largest medical library. In fiscal year 2023, NLM issued 220 research awards totaling $96 million. Rosenbloom, who’s already among the committee’s 22 members, will work with the committee to review research applications and make recommendations on research awards to directors of NLM and NIH.
“It’s been an honor to represent Vanderbilt and to serve the field of biomedical informatics in the scientific review process at NLM, and I look forward to this expanded role on the committee,” Rosenbloom said.
According to NLM, committee members are selected based on their demonstrated competence and accomplishments in their scientific disciplines as evidenced by the quality of research, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.
An internist and pediatrician, Rosenbloom is a nationally recognized investigator in the field of health information technology evaluation. His research has focused on studying how patients and health care providers interact with health information technologies when documenting patient care and making clinical decisions.
Rosenbloom received his MD and MPH at Vanderbilt, joining the faculty in 2002. He serves as vice-chair of faculty affairs in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, director of Clinical Effectiveness Research for the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network, and director of VUMC’s patient portal, My Health at Vanderbilt.
