The Vanderbilt Credit Union (VCU) has expanded its footprint with the opening of a branch in room 1107 just off the main lobby of Vanderbilt University Hospital.
“We’re thrilled to return to VUMC’s 21st Avenue campus,” said Mike McDonald, President & CEO of the credit union. “Convenience is key to banking. Our new branch will provide a nearby option for VCU’s 6,000 and growing members. Any VUMC and Vanderbilt University employee can join.”
McDonald pointed out that the credit union is different from banks, which are for profit. VCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members who are part of the Vanderbilt community. Instead of dividends for investors, VCU has used its earnings to provide lower loan rates, fewer fees, and discounted services.
The credit union had been located in the Oxford House for many years, but since moving from that building VCU has added more convenience for members through online lending, online deposit account opening, texting, web chat, and its first drive-up ATM in VUMC Lot 73.
“We constantly look to add convenience for VUMC health care professionals as they navigate demanding schedules and manage their financial lives,” McDonald said. “Credit unions are about people helping other people.”
