Vanderbilt University Medical Center has once again been named a Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign Healthcare Equality Index (HEI).
VUMC is the only organization in Tennessee to repeatedly be recognized for its commitment to adopting adult LGBTQ-inclusive patient, visitation and employment policies.
VUMC received an evaluation of 100 in the latest edition of the yearly index, the highest score possible.
“While we still have plenty of work to do, I’m really proud of our growing clinical services and the supports available to sexual and gender minority patients at VUMC,” said Del Ray Zimmerman, director of the Vanderbilt Program for LGBTQ Health.
HEI is the national LGBTQ benchmarking tool that evaluates health care facilities’ policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees.
The scoring criteria requires that a facility receives a score of 100 points to be designated as a “Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality.”
A record 1,065 health care facilities actively participated in the HEI 2024 survey and scoring process. Of those participants, 384 received the top score of 100, earning the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader designation.
