Ashish Patel, MD, MBA, MS, assistant professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named section chief of Emergency Radiology.
Patel, who is registered in musculoskeletal sonography, joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2018 and previously served as interim section chief.
“I’m excited about the continued growth and collaboration within our section,” Patel said. “Together, we can make great strides toward achieving our 2024 VUMC Pillar goals and initiatives.”
“Dr. Patel is a motivated and energized faculty member who will be a key contributor to this crucial acute care gateway to VUMC,” said department chair Daniel Brown, MD.
Other faculty members echoed Brown’s assessment, including Colin McKnight, MD, vice chair of Clinical Operations, and Laveil Allen, MD, MMHC, an emergency radiologist who serves as executive medical director of the Clinical Imaging Clinical Service Center (CSC).
“Dr. Patel has quickly emerged as a highly capable and talented leader among our group of exceptional emergency radiologists,” Allen said. “We have successfully developed and maintained a top-tier 24/7 faculty coverage model for our emergency department that far exceeds the national standard.
“Formalizing the section’s identity under Dr. Patel’s leadership will allow for continued growth around sectional objectives,” he said, “and ready the division for the ever-changing demands of acute care imaging.”
In addition to his focus on clinical service, Patel said he would like to enhance academic opportunities in the section — including national committees, lectureships and mentorship programs.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to work with such a diverse and talented group of individuals, each bringing unique backgrounds, career paths and motivations,” he said. “Despite the challenges we face, we consistently come together to support one another and, most importantly, to provide exceptional care for our patients.”
