Volunteer Services at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt recently launched a new program for employees and community members interested in giving a helping hand at the hospital.
The Caring Hands Crew was created to expand group volunteer opportunities and to assist with some of the behind-the-scenes needs at the hospital.
“We are hoping to engage the community and our employees in a meaningful and helpful way that goes beyond in-person patient care,” said Cindy Comperry, assistant director of Volunteer Services at Monroe Carell.
“There are so many opportunities to help. Caring Hands Crew is an extension of the hospital’s Child Life team providing volunteers the chance to prepare items for therapeutic play, sorting donations or organizing patient projects.
“All of these activities allow volunteers to become a hands-on part of our mission. It also allows our staff to focus on patient care, knowing that these tasks are being completed.”
The Caring Hands Crew is open to any company team or volunteer group, including employees at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
“Healing at Monroe Carell happens every day,” Comperry said. “Through this program, your caring hands will play a part.”
The Caring Hands Crew shifts:
- Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12:30–1:30 p.m. at Monroe Carell
- The second Wednesday of each month at the off-site warehouse from 3–5 p.m.
