National Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 20-26, and VUMC Volunteer Services has events planned to recognize and honor the men and women who donate their time to the Medical Center.
In the past year, volunteers served more than 22,500 hours at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks and Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital.
“We celebrate our incredible volunteers who give their time, energy, and compassion to support patients, families, and staff,” said Angela Purinton, program manager in Volunteer Services. “From providing comfort to assisting with essential tasks that have a direct impact on patient and family centered care, the kindness and dedication from each of our volunteers make a world of difference every day.”
This year, there is something extra to celebrate; volunteer Nicholas Joy has been selected as a finalist for the Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Award for his service with VUMC, where he volunteers in the VUH Emergency Department. This annual award to recognize and honor volunteers all over the city, is presented by the United Way of Nashville and Hands On Nashville. There were 79 nominations for the award, and Joy is one of three finalists. The winner will be announced on May 8.
