Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt named 2025 Leapfrog Top Hospital

This year, Monroe Carell is one of only 15 children’s hospitals nationwide to receive the Top Hospitals designation.

Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt has earned the distinction of being a Leapfrog Top Hospital for 2025, reaffirming the hospital’s leadership in safety and quality nationwide for the fourth year in a row.

This year, Monroe Carell is one of only 15 children’s hospitals nationwide to receive the Top Hospitals designation.

Leapfrog has published its Top Hospitals lists since 2006, and this marks the ninth time Monroe Carell has achieved this honor. The announcement was made Dec. 15, with Top Hospitals celebrated at the 2025 Leapfrog Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.

“Congratulations to our incredible teams for this achievement,” said Meg Rush, MD, MMHC, President of Monroe Carell. “Earning this recognition for several consecutive years reflects our unwavering commitment to quality and safety across every aspect of care. It truly takes all of us working together to make this possible. Thank you for outstanding teamwork and dedication to high quality, safe patient care.”

This distinction adds to Monroe Carell’s impressive performance-based honors for 2025. Earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Monroe Carell among the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals, naming it the No. 1 children’s hospital in Tennessee and tied for first in the Southeast.

The 2025 Leapfrog Top Hospitals list includes 156 hospitals: 15 Top Children’s Hospitals, 52 Top General Hospitals, 16 Top Rural Hospitals, and 73 Top Teaching Hospitals. More than 2,400 hospitals were considered for the award.

“At Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, patient safety and quality care are at the heart of everything we do,” said Carrie Menser, MD, executive medical director of Patient Safety, Perioperative Anesthesia medical director and associate chief of staff. “Earning recognition as a Top Children’s Hospital from Leapfrog reflects the dedication of our entire team to delivering the highest standards of care for children and families. We are proud to continually raise the bar and advance practices that ensure the safest possible environment for every patient.”

Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is an independent national nonprofit organization celebrating 25 years of driving a movement for giant leaps for patient safety. Hospitals selected for the Leapfrog Top Hospital designation meet some of the most rigorous safety and quality standards in the nation, as outlined in Leapfrog’s annual methodology. The selection is based on results from the 2025 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Criteria include performance across key areas such as infection prevention, maternity care, and medication safety.
