Jasmine Bruton, BSN, RN, works in the Pediatric Medicine and Acute Care unit at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. She is one of the latest Vanderbilt Health DAISY Award winners.
From the nomination
“When I was first diagnosed with IBD, it felt like my world collapsed beneath me. I was consumed by fear, confusion, and a deep sense of isolation. It was as if I had fallen into a pit of darkness with no way out. But in that darkness, there was a light. That light was Jasmine.
“Jasmine wasn’t just a nurse assigned to my care. She became my comfort and my hope. She didn’t have to go the extra mile, but she did, time and time again. Though I was only one of the many patients under her care, Jasmine treated me as if I were the only one. She advocated for me when I couldn’t find the words or the strength to speak up for myself. Through every conversation, every small gesture, and every word of encouragement, Jasmine reminded me that healing wasn’t just physical, it was emotional, mental, and deeply personal.
“What strikes me the most is I know I am not the first person she has treated this way. She embodies the very essence of what it means to be a nurse and so much more. She is incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate, gentle, resilient, and full of grace. Her unwavering spirit shines through every interaction she has. Jasmine touched my life in a way that I will never forget. She is the kind of nurse who changes lives and was a blessing at a time when I needed one most. I feel incredibly fortunate to have crossed paths with her.”
About DAISY Awards
The DAISY Award is a recognition for extraordinary nurses who exemplify compassion toward patients and families.
Vanderbilt Health distributes the award in partnership with The DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 1999 to honor the memory of J. Patrick Barnes, a 33-year-old man who died of complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Barnes’ family was moved by the care they received from his nurses and wanted to recognize them to preserve his memory. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
Vanderbilt Health nurse committees determine the individual recipients. Previous recipients of the DAISY Award are here. The award is open to all licensed nurses, and anyone can nominate — including co-workers, patients and their families.
