Five Vanderbilt nurses received top honors at the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards held Dec. 9 in Franklin, Tenn.
The inaugural event recognized nurses who embody leadership, compassion and excellence in patient care across all specialties.
Those receiving March of Dimes Nurse of the Year awards were: Terri Crutcher, M.S.N., R.N., associate professor of Nursing and clinical director of the West End Women's Center (Nursing Administration category); Mavis Schorn, Ph.D., C.N.M., associate professor of Nursing and program director of Nurse Midwifery (education category); Susan White, R.N., a registered nurse in Obstetrics and Gynecology (Oncology category); Cheryl Major, RNC, BSN, neonatal outreach coordinator in the Division of Neonatology at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt (Pediatric category); and Michelle Collins, M.S.N., C.N.M., assistant professor of Nursing (Women's Health category).
The selection committee reviewed applications across 13 categories ranging from women's health and pediatrics to emergency and oncology disciplines. There were 75 nominees.
Vanderbilt's Nicole Herndon, M.S.N., R.N.C., assistant administrator for the Center for Women's Health, was Nurse of the Year Event Chairperson.
The March of Dimes, with chapters nationwide, is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health.
