Cardiac cath labs set to move indoors at the end of February
The portable cardiac catheterization labs, located adjacent to Vanderbilt University Hospital for the past four years, will vacate the premises at the end of this month.
The two cath labs will move to the first floor of VUH in the space previously occupied by the Electrophysiology Labs, which moved to the third floor of The Vanderbilt Clinic in January.
There are currently two cath labs in the hospital, so capacity will remain the same.
As of Feb. 10, 9,500 cases have been performed in the mobile cath labs since they opened July 11, 2006.
“We are happy to be moving out of the portable labs and into the hospital,” said David Zhao, M.D., director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Interventional Cardiology.
“While the mobile labs served us well, it has long been our intention to use them as a temporary solution to a space issue. I think our patients, and our referring physicians, will be glad to know that we will be doing all cardiac cases within the confines of the hospital.”
Electrophysiology patients, meanwhile, are being directed to Admitting on the third floor TVC Day Surgery desk.
