VICC earns accreditation for human research subjects protection
Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center has earned accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Program (AAHRPP).
The accreditation confirms that VICC places a high value on the protection of individuals who participate in research and demonstrates the cancer community’s commitment to promoting ethical research.
“We are honored to receive this important recognition of our commitment to high ethical standards in human research,” said Jordan Berlin, M.D., clinical director of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program.
“The people who agree to participate in clinical trials are vital to our mission of speeding laboratory findings to the bedside, and we have a responsibility to treat them with the utmost care and respect.”
AAHRPP is an independent, non-profit organization which encourages effective and innovative systems of protection for human research participants. The goal is to ensure that all participants are respected and protected from unnecessary harm.
To earn accreditation, organizations must provide tangible evidence of their adherence to scientifically and ethically sound research.
Accreditation is the gold standard for research organizations to demonstrate this ethical behavior and to build confidence among patients in the quality of clinical research.
