Jansen elected president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery
E. Duco Jansen, Ph.D., professor of Biomedical Engineering and Neurosurgery, was elected president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
“It is a true honor to serve this society. ASLMS is a unique organization that brings together scientists, engineers, industry, physicians and other health care providers, all with the focus of using and developing lasers and related technologies to ultimately improve patient care,” Jansen said.
“I am only the third non-M.D. in the 30-year history of the society to be elected president. It presents a great opportunity to continue to focus on the core values of the society — the interaction between basic research and engineering on one hand and clinical care on the other.”
Jansen recently served as vice president and became president-elect at the ASLMS annual meeting in April. He will take the helm for a one-year term beginning in April 2010. That year will mark the 50th anniversary of the invention of the laser and the 30th anniversary of the ASLMS.
The ASLMS is the world’s largest scientific organization dedicated to promoting research, education and high standards of clinical care in the field of medical laser applications. It has more than 4,300 members worldwide.
