State of the Medical Center Address set
Jeff Balser, M.D., Ph.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs and dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, will deliver his first State of the Medical Center Address at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Langford Auditorium.
The annual Medical Center address will be Balser's first opportunity to speak to the full Vanderbilt community since assuming his new responsibilities on June 1.
Balser will discuss broad themes that could define and shape Vanderbilt as a worldwide destination for health care and discovery — themes that emphasize what is special about Vanderbilt, reaching across research, education and patient care.
He will outline some of VUMC's latest successes, as well as significant challenges academic medicine is facing in today's tough economic environment, both locally and nationally.
