Rebecca Bauer, M.D., a resident in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, was recently chosen by Vanderbilt University School of Medicine students to receive the CANDLE (Caring, Advocating, Nurturing, Determination, Leadership and Empathy) Award.
The honor is given to individuals who have devoted themselves to teaching and mentoring.
Recipients are nominated and chosen based upon their positive impact on the lives of physicians-in-training, and are recognized by their students as examples of excellence in medical education.
“Dr. Bauer’s determination to see us succeed in Anatomy and through medical school was so strong,” one of her nominators wrote.
“She nurtured us without judgment and patiently taught us to be empowered in this new environment. Her sacrifice of time and energy beyond the call cannot be adequately thanked, and will not be forgotten.
