Brain Awareness events wrapped up last week. On Wednesday, Michael Merzenich, Ph.D., of the University of California at San Francisco, an expert on brain plasticity, gave the keynote address. Merzenich described how early exposure to auditory stimuli alters brain architecture and impacts later brain function. His recent work in dyslexic children has demonstrated that auditory training programs helped to normalize their brain activity patterns and improve their reading and language skills.
