The new online safety training program was launched to accommodate employees with busy schedules and to satisfy the required training for all VUMC staff.
Vanderbilt staff will be able to complete annual safety training live during the Spring Safety Fair, Feb. 26-28 and March 3-4 or online beginning Feb. 26.
The new online program, VandySafe, provides an alternative method for satisfying mandatory safety training required by the various regulatory agencies without having to wait in lines at the Learning Center.
The process is simple. Beginning Feb. 26, visit www.vandysafe.com and enter your VU Net ID in the username field. Enter the word “password” in the password field.

All staff are eligible to participate in the online training, but skill demonstrations (mock code, point of care testing, etc.) must be performed in person.
The new online training is another example of VUMC’s commitment of satisfying training requirements, while limiting the time and burden of employees.
“VandySafe was designed for the employees,” said Susan Johnson, VUMC’s Safety Officer. “We know how busy everyone is, and this online training alternative allows faculty and staff to complete the requirements without leaving their workstations.”
Safety fairs are held twice a year in the Learning Center in Medical Center North. Three categories of safety training are offered based on potential exposure to hazards. Universal safety training, covering office musculoskeletal/ergonomic awareness, hazard communication awareness, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and personal safety, is recommended for all VUMC staff. Universal safety is central to all categories of safety training.
The next level, research laboratory safety, includes universal safety training, chemical safety and physical safety in the laboratory, conducting research with human materials, and hazardous waste training for laboratories. Patient contact safety training involves universal safety training, bloodborne pathogen-standard precautions/infection control TB precautions, latex allergy awareness, Sharps safety devices, and Glutaraldehyde/Cidex.
