Craig C. Garner, Ph.D., professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stanford University, presents his research findings on quantal assembly of the presynaptic active zone in brain neurons. Garner was one of five invited speakers at the 2002 Earl W. Sutherland Jr. Symposium last Wednesday, sponsored by the department of Pharmacology and the Center for Molecular Neuroscience. The talks addressed the origin and dynamics of chemical signaling between nerve cells, with specific reference to the presynaptic compartment. (photo by Dana Johnson)
