VUMC mourns loss of Castelnuovo-Tedesco
Dr. Pietro Castelnuovo-Tedesco
Dr. Pietro Castelnuovo-Tedesco, James G. Blakemore professor of Psychiatry, died Saturday at home at the age of 73.
Dr. Castelnuovo-Tedesco, born and raised in Florence, Italy, was the son of composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
As a nationally recognized psychoanalyst, Dr. Castelnuovo-Tedesco was a training and supervising analyst at the St. Louis Psychological Institute as well as a faculty member of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Dr. Castelnuovo-Tedesco was also the president of the American College of Psychoanalysts, a member of both the International Psychoanalytic Association and the American Psychoanalytic Association, and a fellow in both the American Psychiatric Association and the American Collage of Psychiatrists.
He was known for two works which greatly influence phychological principles today ‹ The Twenty Minute 'Hour,' a book about psychotherapy techniques for physicians, and Dynamic Psychiatry, a collection of his works on psychoanalysis, psychosomatic medicine, and psychiatry.
A fund that will benefit patient costs has been set up under Dr. Castelnuovo-Tedesco's name. Donations may be sent to the Dr. Pietro Castelnuovo-Tedesco Fund, Gift Records, Vanderbilt University, 201 Alumni Hall, Nashville, TN 37240.
Castelnuovo-Tedesco is survived by his wife Lisbeth, daughters Diana and Costanza, and son Lorenzo.
