VUMC's Entman honored by Duke School of Medicine

Dr. Stephen S. Entman, professor and chair of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, was recently named one of three distinguished alumni of Duke University School of Medicine.
Entman received the award at Duke's Medical Alumni Awards Luncheon last Fall. The awards honor alumni for their contributions to Duke and to the medical community at large.
Entman received his medical degree from Duke in 1968. He was a member of the housestaff that year.
Entman's brother, Mark, who is a 1963 graduate of Duke and served two years on the housestaff, also received a distinguished alumnus award at the same ceremony. He is a professor of medicine, biochemistry and pathology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and is chief of cardiovascular sciences and director of Baylor's DeBakey Heart Center.
"I am very pleased," Entman said. "The honor was a double pleasure because I was able to share the occasion with my brother."
Entman, a New York native who earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard, came to Vanderbilt in 1980 as an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was promoted to associate professor in 1985 and professor in 1991. He was named vice-chairman of the department in 1987 and chairman in 1995.
