Forbes, Science Blog and Tech Explorist covered the Nature Human Behaviour paper from Reyna Gordon, PhD, associate professor of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, that discovered significant genetic connections between human language abilities and musical rhythm skills, providing new insights into the biological underpinnings of these fundamental human traits. 

Women’s World reporter Marcy Lovitch interviewed Jordan Wright, MD, PhD, assistant professor of Medicine in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, for a story about whether there’s a genetic component to Type 2 diabetes.

Medical Xpress, Radiology Business, MSN, Becker’s Hospital Review and Aunt Minnie covered the Radiology paper from John Scheel, MD, PhD, professor of Radiology and vice chair of Global Health in the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, and Diana Carver, PhD, associate professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, that found the energy consumption from imaging equipment accounted for more than 50% of the department’s greenhouse gas emissions and shed light on areas to focus future evidence-based strategies to decarbonize.

News Medical and covered the Nature study from Simon Vandekar, PhD, associate professor of Biostatistics, that demonstrates careful attention to study design can substantially improve the reliability of magnetic resonance imaging to identify relationships between brain structure or function and human behavior or health.

Aunt Minnie covered the Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology paper from Courtney Tomblinson, MD, associate professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, that outlined current challenges for breastfeeding radiologists and how departments can develop and implement strategic lactation plans to create more accessibility for trainees and faculty.

Joseph Schlesinger, MD, professor of Anesthesiology, who also has secondary appointments in Hearing & Speech Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Nursing and at the Blair School of Music, was quoted in a Tennessean piece about the Abe’s Garden senior center using music to help those with dementia.
