VIGH welcomes AIC Kijabe Hospital leader

Vanderbilt University Medical Center and AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kenya, are long-standing collaborators on health and training initiatives.

The Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health, led by Muktar Aliyu, MBBS, MPH, DrPH, hosted Chege Macharia, MD, executive director of AIC Kijabe Hospital, in Nashville on March 1.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center and AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kijabe, Kenya, have a long-standing collaboration to improve health and well-being as well as increase the capacity for training in Kenya. The visit, arranged by nonprofit Friends of Kijabe, offered the chance to connect in-person and brainstorm about future goals. 

“Teaming up with AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kenya to provide our residents and fellows with meaningful and impactful learning experiences over the years is vital to the mission of VIGH and VUMC. We enjoyed hosting Dr. Macharia and his team and look forward to continuing to build this valued partnership,” said Aliyu, who holds the Directorship in Global Health.
