Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center has received a three-year accreditation with commendation, the highest level of approval, from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS).
Accreditation is awarded through an extensive evaluation and on-site review of compliance with rigorous quality-of-care standards. Programs are reviewed every three years.
Fewer than 25 percent of hospitals in the United States and Puerto Rico receive ACoS Commission on Cancer approval, and even fewer attain the level of accreditation with commendation.
The Commission on Cancer, established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients. Its membership includes the Fellows of the American College of Surgeons and 40 national organizations.
