McCoin named to academic leadership program for women

Nicole McCoin, MD, vice chair for Education and Keith D. Wrenn residency program director in the Department of Emergency Medicine, has been accepted as a fellow in the 2019-2020 class of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women.

UPDATE: Information about 403(b) Plan Settlement

In late August a number of faculty members and other employees received a notice regarding a class action settlement from the Settlement Administrator that has been appointed in the matter.

Microvilli in motion

Live cell imaging studies have revealed that microvilli — finger-like protrusions on the surface of epithelial cells — move and collide as they form the brush border.

The money is still rolling in, but it appears that the Greater Nashville Heart Walk will raise close to $2 million in its fight against heart disease and stroke as well as provide funding for public and professional education and community service programs. The walk, held Sept. 14 on Vanderbilt’s campus, saw teams from VUMC (shown above) join more than 10,000 walkers from more than 140 companies. With $70,000 counted, Vanderbilt University Medical Center teams are near the projected fundraising goal of $75,000. Donations are still being accepted at NashvilleHeartWalk.org.
