Jun. 28, 2018—Friends and colleagues surrounded R. Daniel Beauchamp, MD, during a recent reception honoring him for his many contributions and dedicated service as chair of the Section of Surgical Sciences since 2001.

The Department of Anesthesiology is reconfiguring its leadership structure, partly in response to the recent appointment of department chair Warren Sandberg, MD, PhD, as VUAH Co-Chief of Staff for Perioperative and Critical Care Services. Mark Rice, MD, has been appointed Executive Vice Chair and Amy Robertson, MD, has been appointed Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs.

David Chestnut, MD, received the Society for Obstetric Anesthesiology and Perinatology’s Distinguished Service Award during the group’s annual meeting in May.

Digna R. Velez Edwards, PhD, has been named director of Women’s Health Research, succeeding longtime director and founder, Katherine Hartmann, MD, PhD, associate dean of Clinical and Translational Scientist Development and professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The 35th annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Telethon was held on Sunday, June 3, at Seacrest Studios in partnership with WTVF NewsChannel 5.

A group of young lung cancer patients and their family members recently toured research laboratories at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) to learn how investigators are working to find better therapies and possibly a cure for the disease.
