Vanderbilt University Hospital has again been recognized among the safest hospitals in the nation after receiving a fall 2021 safety grade of “A” from the Leapfrog group.

VUMC sees increase of COVID-19 in pregnant patients

Physicians at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) have recently noticed an increase in pregnant patients ill with COVID-19. These cases are especially concerning due an increased risk of hospitalization, ICU admission, need for mechanical ventilation and ventilatory support, and increased risk of death in pregnant patients with COVID-19 compared to non-pregnant patients.

Warren Sandberg, MD, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, and Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital’s (VUAH) chief of staff for Perioperative and Critical Care Service, has been named as the hospital’s new Chief of Staff.

Adult Hospital and Clinics chief of staff Jagasia to leave VUMC

Shubhada Jagasia, MD, MMHC, professor of Medicine and chief of staff for Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital and Clinics, has accepted a new position as President and Chief Executive Officer for Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown and West Hospitals. She will be leaving Vanderbilt University Medical Center this month.

VUMC offers new program for undiagnosed diseases

Vanderbilt University Medical Center, an original member institution of the National Institutes of Health’s Undiagnosed Diseases Network, (UDN) is launching its own program, the Vanderbilt Undiagnosed Diseases Program (VUDP), which will operate alongside the UDN. The VUDP goal is to expand services to many more patients who are living with the often-dire consequences of an undiagnosed disease.
