The 19th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Lecture was held on Monday and commenced with the United Voices of Vanderbilt choir’s stirring rendition of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Nominations are being accepted for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award, which will be presented Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, to a faculty or staff member in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing or Medical Center who emulates through his or her work the principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

André Churchwell, MD, greeted those gathered in Light Hall for Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Lecture with a reminder that his father, Robert, gave the first such lecture at Vanderbilt 17 years ago.
