Accomplishments of Mion, Weiner honored by VUSN
Vanderbilt University School of Nursing recently honored Lorraine Mion, Ph.D., R.N., as the Independence Foundation Professor in Nursing and Betsy Weiner, Ph.D., R.N., as the Centennial Foundation Professor in Nursing.
“We are fortunate to have both of these accomplished people as tremendous resources for our school, the Medical Center and the University,” said Colleen Conway-Welch, Ph.D., dean of VUSN. “Lorraine is the consummate researcher who long ago dedicated her career to the aging population, which will be a challenging focus in health care. Betsy is a brilliant professor; her curiosity and sense of adventure in the area of informatics continue to benefit all in her path.”

Weiner came to VUSN in 2000 as senior associate dean of Informatics. She has helped the School of Nursing become internationally recognized as a leader in using technology and communications systems throughout the school's education, research and practice enterprises. She spearheaded the school's Frist Nursing Informatics Center, received the 2008 Virginia K. Saba award from the American Medical Informatics Association and recently received notice of a $1.6 million HRSA Innovative Nurse Education technologies grant to develop simulation course management in collaboration with the University of Kentucky.
The $1 million funding for these endowed chairs was provided by the Independence Foundation of Philadelphia as part of a $10.8 million grant to nursing education for the 10 top private nursing schools and programs across the nation.
