The 18th Annual Affirmative Action & Diversity Initiative Awards are seeking nominations.

Up to six persons or groups will receive cash awards, and others will receive certificates of recognition for the contributions.

Those who wish to nominate an individual or a group who has displayed an extraordinary dedication to affirmative action, diversity, or opportunities for people with disabilities for the honor may do so until Sept. 16.

To make a nomination, send the name, title and department of the nominee or group with a written description of the nominee’s affirmative action or diversity activities to the Opportunity Development Center, VU Station B #351809.

Please include your signature and telephone number. If you prefer to use a nomination form, call ODC at 322-4705.

The awards ceremony will be held Oct. 21 at the Wyatt Center Rotunda. The reception is at 3 p.m., and the program is at 3:30 p.m.

Established in 1987, the Affirmative Action Awards were designed to recognize the accomplishments of the recipients and to encourage others to follow their example.

The awards are given in two categories: efforts on behalf of the general affirmative action programs at Vanderbilt or support and promotion of opportunities for persons with disabilities at Vanderbilt.
