Slayton’s nomination read, in part, “She is always willing to collaborate and help drive change that positively impacts our patients' lives. More than once I have heard her say something to the effect of, ‘Change is not always easy but we do what we do to help our patients even when it is hard.’ This is her philosophy and it shows through her work and the guidance she gives her team.”
The Credo Award recognizes colleagues who exemplify the Medical Center's standards for service and all-around professionalism. Awards went to:

Ron Neufeld, B.S.W., program manager, Vanderbilt Comprehensive Assessment Program. His nomination read, in part, “Ron has personally established solid referral linkages that resulted in referrals from 30 states and several Canadian provinces. Ron is reliable, conscientious and able to easily manage difficult situations with clients and referral sources. He is highly respected by our patients, loved by his colleagues and respected internationally.”

Cydney Olsen, preappointment coordinator, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic, Center for Women’s Health. Her nomination read, in part, “Cydney is the most thoughtful person I know, always helping other staff, going above and beyond. Cydney’s kindness is infectious, and she has a sixth sense about people and seems to pick up when someone is having a bad day.”

Clay Sturgeon, audiovisual manager, Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. His nomination read, in part, “The words ‘Sorry I cannot help you’ or ‘You should have submitted a request’ will never be uttered by Clay Sturgeon. He cannot pass up anyone who needs assistance. He truly embodies the Vanderbilt Credo of putting the customer, his co-workers and this institution first and foremost.”
