Joey Barnett, Ph.D., has been appointed to the board of directors for the American Heart Association's new Greater Southeast Affiliate, where he will serve as the vice-chair on the Research Committee.
Barnett has been affiliated with the AHA for nearly 20 years, serving as president of the Nashville board of directors and also as a fellow and an established investigator for the AHA.
Last October, the board of directors of the Florida/Puerto Rico Affiliate and the Southeast Affiliate approved a plan of consolidation, creating the Greater Southeast Affiliate.
“The new Greater Southeast Affiliate will not only serve one of the largest and most at-risk populations in the country, but it will also serve many great research institutions,” said Barnett.
“We hope our contributions will both advance scientific research and improve the everyday lives of those who live in the Southeast.”
