“Enhanced 911” emergency telephone service has been implemented for Vanderbilt University.

Dialing 911 directly from any Vanderbilt exchange phone reaches the VUPD Communications Center, where a trained communications specialist determines the nature of the emergency, and an appropriate response is initiated.

The more than 100 blue light emergency phones on campus also may be used to summon help in an emergency.

Previously, callers had to dial 9 to get an outside line to initiate police, fire or medical emergency assistance on campus. That is no longer necessary.

Fire and medical emergency calls received at VPD Communications Center are communicated for appropriate response through direct link phone and radio equipment with Nashville Fire and EMS.

For non-emergencies, the number for VUPD police, fire and medical response on campus is 322-2745.
