The importance of the epidermal growth factor receptor family in cancer will be explored in depth during the 2002 Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Scientific Retreat on Friday, March 8.

The retreat will begin at 8 a.m. in Sarratt Cinema. The morning session will feature presentations by faculty from Vanderbilt as well as the Friedrch Miescher Institute in Basal, Switzerland, and the Ludgwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne, Australia.

The epidermal growth factor and its family of receptors have become hot topics in the field of cancer research as information builds about their importance in the progression of cancer and promising new therapies, such as Iressa, are designed to target these molecules.

After lunch, the retreat will reconvene at 1 p.m. in the 8th floor conference center of the Frances Williams Preston Building for a poster session. The event will conclude with a reception and awards ceremony at 3 p.m.
