Cancer webcast to focus on personalized medicine
William Pao, M.D., Ph.D., Ingram Associate Professor of Cancer Research, and Jeffrey Sosman, M.D., professor of Medicine, will give an update on Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center’s personalized medicine initiatives during a Patient Power Webcast, Tuesday, Aug. 25, 6 – 7 p.m.

Pao is leading development of VICC’s clinical application of “personalized oncology” as well as a national clinical trial studying why some people who never smoke develop lung cancer.
Jeffrey Sosman, M.D.
Sosman is a renal cancer expert and director of the VICC Melanoma Program. He will be the national leader of a multi-center Phase II study of an investigational drug for melanoma.
Personalized medicine in cancer includes the use of genetic testing to determine the molecular makeup of a tumor. This enables physicians to match the patient with the best treatment and potentially spares patients from undergoing treatments that may not work.
The Patient Power Webcast will be hosted by leukemia survivor Andrew Schorr. Schorr and his wife launched the online Patient Power program to help patients and families find the best medicine for their condition and return to health.
