The new date for the opening of Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and move of pediatric patients from the VUH hospital into the Children’s Hospital building, has been set for Sunday, Feb. 8.

Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital CEO Jim Shmerling said the construction punch list, the list of items to be completed, was complete enough to feel confident that the new hospital is ready for occupation.

“We believe this date will be a good one, partly because on Sunday there will be fewer procedures and elective surgeries scheduled, and the patient census should be low,” Shmerling said.

A worship service is being planned for staff who wish to attend.

The move was originally scheduled to take place Jan. 9, but a number of key items remained on the punch list and hospital administration felt it was best to wait. Preparation has been complete for weeks, including the completion of two mock moves.
