The Lions Club of Tennessee has donated a device that could help save the vision of premature babies and children who have been abused. The RetCam is a computerized diagnostic tool that can quickly and painlessly take a high quality image of the retina at a patient's bedside and is sensitive enough to detect retina damage in its early stages. Members of the Lions Club of Tennessee recently presented the device to the Department of Ophthalmology and the Tennessee Lions Eye Center at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. On hand demonstrating the device was Paul Sternberg, M.D., director of the Vanderbilt Eye Institute and chair of the Department of Opthalmology and Visual Sciences.
