Cable News Network (CNN) has joined forces with Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s News and Public Affairs Office to distribute the medical center’s Video News Releases (VNRs).

The monthly VNRs will be distributed through the CNN Newsource network, which includes over 700 domestic and Canadian stations. Affiliates in the network include 147 ABC stations, 146 CBS stations, 143 NBC stations, 103 FOX stations and more than 250 independent, cable and Canadian outlets, which will provide international visibility of the VUMC material.

The VUMC VNR project provides monthly video releases of health-related news stories covering issues regarding medical research, patient care, new medical techniques and informational/educational topics. The VNRs run as health reports in commercial TV station newscasts.

The VUMC VNRs are written and produced by Barb Cramer, director of Video News Services in the News Office. Thirty-six video news releases are produced and distributed each year.

The VNR project has won numerous national, regional and local awards since its inception in 1993.

The VNR project also supplies the VNR-TV news stories directly to regional commercial TV stations, in addition to specific target stations across the U.S.
