David K. Cortez, Ph.D., assistant professor of Biochemistry, received the 2002 Wilson S. Stone Memorial Award from the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The annual award, presented to Cortez at an Oct. 16 symposium on “Mechanisms for Cell Growth and Differentiation,” recognizes research accomplishments early in an investigator’s career.
Cortez, who joined the VUMC faculty on Aug. 1, was honored for his work on the regulation and role of the protein Brca1-implicated in breast cancer-and its associated proteins, and for his discovery of the ATRIP gene.
