Located on floor 7, the 34-bed unit will care for patients undergoing kidney, liver and pancreas transplant and general surgery, including plastic and weight loss surgery.

The Critical Care Tower is an 11-story, 329,000-square-foot addition to VUH, which originally opened with three units and left four floors shelled for future growth. The Transplant and Surgical Unit is the first of these to be readied for occupancy.

The new floor has much the same layout and finishes as existing Critical Care Tower units, with a few customizations for the transplant and surgical population, including a procedure room, two observations areas, special equipment for bariatric patients and enhanced monitoring capabilities.
