The inaugural Children's Miracle Network “Cure Kids Cancer” Radiothon will take place Oct. 4-5 at the Wal-Mart Super Center in Cookeville. The event begins at 6 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. each day.

The event will be broadcast live on radio station Magic FM-98.5, by radio personalities Freaky Dave and Jane Ellen.

Its goal is to raise money for the Vanderbilt Childhood Cancer Program at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. About 100 patients from the Cookeville area were treated at Children's Hospital last year.

“We are thrilled about the inaugural “Cure Kids Cancer” Radiothon, as it will raise funds and awareness for the Vanderbilt Childhood Cancer Program,” said Lisa Dill, director of Children's Miracle Network at Children's Hospital. “Community support is also a key element for this effort, and we're excited to take the next step toward curing childhood cancer.”

Children's Hospital is one of the 22 original founding hospitals of the CMN. Formed in 1982, CMN remains the only national fund-raising effort with the credo that 100 percent of all the money raised locally goes directly to local member hospitals.
