Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in conjunction with the Vanderbilt Diabetes Center hosted the first Diabetes Family Day on Nov. 16, a half-day educational pediatric diabetes care update for patients, family members, caregivers, children and siblings who live with diabetes.

The objective of the event was to provide a fun, interactive, educational opportunity for patients and their families. Through educational sessions about advances in diabetes care, exhibits of product venders, classes about everyday care needs and issues, parents were able to talk with their child’s medical team and learn. The event was also a way for parents and families to meet and network with other families.

There were special activities for children that included educational games related to diabetes. For the parents and family members, there were a number of breakout sessions dealing with a variety of topics related to issues faced by families and caregivers of children with diabetes.
