The announcement for the Discovery Grants that was printed in last week’s Reporter was incorrect. The following is the correct Discovery Grant information.
Applications are being accepted for the VUMC Discovery Grant Program. Because the Discovery Grant Program has been so successful, the Office of Research has an unusual situation for 2005. Commitments for ongoing grants leave approximately $300,000 in available funds for the 2005 program. Thus, for 2005, the program will be cast as a multi-investigator seed fund. We will evaluate the success of this format for the program as we consider plans for 2006.
For 2005, the Office of Research is soliciting applications for projects that involve three or more co-principal investigators, for up $100,000 per year, for up to two years. One co-PI should be identified as the contact person (administrative co-PI) for administrative purposes. The funds are intended to stimulate the development of new ideas, and are not intended as a source of bridge funding. Applications will be evaluated primarily on the likelihood that a project, if further developed, will be competitive for multi-investigator (PPG, Center, SCOR, etc.) external funding. As part of the application, the office is requesting information to be provided about which federally-funded multi-investigator award the applicants plan to pursue utilizing data and results from this Discovery Grant.
This round of competition has a deadline of 5 p.m. on Oct. 8 with a start date of Jan. 1, 2005. Information and forms may be obtained by visiting the Office of Research Web page at http://medschool.mc.vanderbilt.edu/oor/pd.
