Question: Some senior managers apply the reward and recognition system to their direct reports. Is this appropriate?
Answer: While “success sharing” bonuses and performance-based salary adjustments occur on a scheduled basis at VUMC, gift certificates awarded to individual employees through our reward and recognition program are a more immediate and flexible way for us to recognize each other's great work.
The reward and recognition system applies to all Medical Center employees. Recognition needs to happen at all levels, including middle management.
