The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center is organizing a team to participate in Light The Night, an event of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to raise funds for research and celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.

The event, which features walkers carrying illuminated balloons, will be Thursday, Sept. 21, at Granny White Park, next to Brentwood Middle School. Registration begins at 5 p.m.; the approximately two-mile walk begins at 6:30 p.m.

Walkers raise funds by securing sponsorship donations from family and friends. Anyone raising at least $25 will receive an illuminated balloon. Other prizes are given for amounts over $75. Walkers on the Vanderbilt team will also receive a Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center T-shirt.

Walkers may designate their participation in honor or memory of someone who has experienced cancer. A number of Vanderbilt walkers are doing so in honor of Jillian Pasley and in memory of Jade Pasley, twin daughters of Vanderbilt Medical Center staff memory Jessica Pasley.

Anyone wishing to join the Vanderbilt-Ingram team or sponsor a Vanderbilt walker may contact team captain Cynthia Manley at 322-4747 or cynthia.manley@mcmail.vanderbilt.edu. More information is also available at www.lightthenight.org or from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at 331-2980.
