Different aspects of the broad field of primary care will be highlighted during Primary Care Week, which begins on Monday, Oct. 5.
The week's events are designed to give Vanderbilt University School of Medicine students the chance to gain insight into the opportunities offered in generalist training.
VUSM students will host the events with the sponsorship of the departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the dean of the School of Medicine's office.
All events will take place at noon in 208 Light Hall. Lunch will be provided to those who attend.
Primary Care Week events will include:
o Monday, Oct. 5 ‹ Dr. Robert S. Dittus, professor of Medicine, and Dr. Gerald B. Hickson, associate professor of Pediatrics, will discuss the career opportunities in academic primary care, including research, administration and professorship.
o Tuesday, Oct. 6 ‹ Dr. Mark Clapp, a Family Medicine physician who practices in a rural community, will speak on his experiences.
o Wednesday, Oct. 7 ‹ a panel of residents and physicians from the sponsoring departments will answer questions about their reasons for entering the Primary Care field, career opportunities and other concerns.
