John Shields recently joined the VUMC faculty as an assistant in Anesthesiology.
Shields graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science degree in biology in 1980. He received a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Austin Peay State University in 1982 and later graduated from the Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia in 1985.
Shields has 14 years experience in intensive care unit management of cardiac surgical patients as an anesthesia specialist, and 10 years experience as a clinical and didactic instructor for vascular, thoracic and cardiovascular anesthesia.
