Steven McElroy, M.D.

Steven J. McElroy, M.D., is an instructor of Pediatrics and attending neonatologist at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

McElroy received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania -Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He then completed his residency in pediatrics at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, where he was the recipient of the David S. Smith Award, given to the best resident educator in the graduating class as voted by the pediatric house staff. He then completed his neonatal-perinatal fellowship at Vanderbilt, where he contributed to research on inflammatory bowel disease with Brent Polk, M.D., in the division of Pediatric Gastroenterology.

McElroy has a strong interest in neonatal gastroenterology and his research centers around the pathophysiology of necrotizing enterocolitis.
