Gregory Barsh, M.D., Ph.D., will deliver the next Discovery Lecture: “Genetics of color variation: model systems and model organisms in a post-genome world.”

The lecture, sponsored by Vanderbilt's Department of Pediatrics, will be held in 208 Light Hall on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 4 p.m.

Barsh, a professor of Pediatrics & Genetics at Stanford University School of Medicine, studies the genetic and biochemical mechanisms that give rise to eye, hair and skin color.

Because many signaling pathways used by the pigmentary system play important roles in human development and disease, his research offers insight into rare inborn conditions like albinism as well as common diseases such as diabetes and obesity, neurodegeneration and skin cancer.
